Heritage South Credit Union was formerly known as the Avondale Employees Federal Credit Union and was originally established in 1937 to provide financial services to employees of the Avondale Mills.
Heritage South Credit Union is now your Community Credit Union serving anyone that lives, works, worships, or attends school in Talladega, Shelby, Coosa, Tallapoosa, or Chilton Counties.
From those modest beginnings in 1937, Heritage South Credit Union has grown to over $65 million in assets and over 10,000 members.

Our Membership
Membership for Heritage South Credit Union is now open to all persons who live, work, worship, and attend school in Talladega, Shelby, Coosa, Tallapoosa, or Chilton Counties.

Why are Credit Unions different?
Credit Unions provide a not-for-profit alternative to other financial providers that may be motivated by profit.
Earnings by the Credit Union are returned to members in the form of higher than average dividends, lower than average loan interest rates, and other services that are offered for free or lower than other financial institutions.
When you join a credit union you are not a customer, but a member. You attend annual meetings and have a vote on who is elected to the board of directors. The Board of Directors are unpaid volunteers that give their time to direct the credit union and are the backbone of the credit union movement.
